In San Antonio this week, a reporter talked with an illegal migrant from Venezuela who is tired, broke, and fed up with the whole thing. He has no money to leave San Antonio and doesn’t know anybody who’ll support him. Beside, cities like New York and Denver are loudly telling migrants like him to stay away. His American Dream is a dud and he wants to go home.
Except he needs a ticket.
And, unfortunately for him, his official removal hearing is not scheduled until 2025, meaning the government won’t pay his way home until it’s ready. So the poor migrant, having made his bed (on the sidewalk, most likely), must lie in it for a couple of years.
He freely admitted to the reporter that he and others with whom he traveled came strictly for economic reasons, the overwhelmingly most common reason why people try to enter the U.S. illegally. When asked what he told the CBP interviewers about any Credible Fears he might have experienced in Venezuela, he said they never asked him.
Unfortunately, this fellow probably spent all his money to get here and has found out too late that he’s been duped by all those welcoming “sanctuary cities” and by that strange old coot in Washington. We live and learn, I reckon.
