Fact Check of Quote Above: Charles Koch is a billionaire and an exponent of the libertarian cult which holds that plutocrats such as himself should have the freedom to do as they please without any obligation to society or country. With respect to immigration, they claim the right to flood our economy with cheap foreign labor with no regard for what this does to American workers or for what effect this diverse inundation has on our national unity.
Koch and his ilk claim that that their unfettered quest for profits is “free enterprise,” but that’s not the way it really works. In a cheap labor economy, workers have to get welfare to survive. Thus the plutocrats profit from low wage labor, while passing the welfare tab on to taxpayers.
These “libertarians” make a big show of how thy oppose socialism, all the while importing an electorate inclined to vote for socialism. By a margin of two to one, immigrants vote for the Democrats, the party of the left. Do Koch and his ilk not understand that mass immigration undermines the capitalism they endorse? Or does simple greed trump all principles they profess?
Koch makes a lot of a poll that found that most Americans think immigration is a good thing. But such a poll is meaningless because it doesn’t specify the quantity and kind of immigration. It’s like asking “Is water good?” That depends on whether you’re talking about a reservoir for drinking water, or a rampaging ocean tsunami. Is fire good? A hearth fire is; a forest fire isn’t.
Even immigration restrictionists believe that immigration at a reasonable level can be a good thing. They just don’t care for the tsunami levels we have now.
The polls claiming that American want more immigration should be suspect for a similar reason when they do not inform those surveyed that our current level of legal immigration, about one million a year, is high by historic standards. A Rasmussen poll informed the people taking it of that level, and the results were quite different from what Koch would have us believe.
The poll found that only 19 percent of likely U.S. voters wanted more than one million immigrants annually, and only 16 percent more wanted to maintain the present level. In contrast, 50 percent wanted immigration cut to 750,000 or less. That total included 35 percent who wanted less than 500,000. Fifteen percent who were “not sure.”
Does Charles Koch doesn’t really care about what Americans want, or what is best for America? More likely, he just wants to feed his greed.
