We Are Being ‘Overwhelmed’

The Quote Below—More Misinformation from the Media

“The migrant march from southern Mexico to the United States is a predictable and understandable result of decades of policies that focus on deterrent strategies, enforcement tactics and border expulsions instead of fixing our border and backlogged immigration system. Taxpayer money is spent on these shortsighted tactics instead of on much needed services and adjudications.

“The Biden Administration has relied on costly and harmful practices steeped in racism such as the mass incarceration of immigrants, the wrongful reliance on Title 42 to keep migrants out and the large-scale deportation of Haitians. Now it is set to recommit to the “Remain in Mexico” policy, making it impossible for the system to function and preventing refugees from exercising their rights.

“The U.S. immigration system isn’t ‘overwhelmed’ because migrants are seeking asylum. Instead, it’s because policymakers insist on keeping their heads in the sand, refuse to accept migration as inevitable and beneficial, and have failed to overhaul our immigration system, It is well past time for this administration to refocus its resources and prioritize welcoming migrants with humanity and dignity.” — A Broken Immigration Plan, Arxhi Pyati. The Washington Post, 10/27/21 [Link]    ,

Fact Check of Above Quote: The U.S. immigration system is in fact being overwhelmed by illegal aliens who make bogus asylum claims. They and their American enablers hit on this strategy to swamp our immigration system and make enforcement impossible. The Trump Administration took action to stop this surge with the “Remain in Mexico” policy and other measures. “Remain in Mexico” required asylum applicants to stay in that country while their asylum claims were being considered. Unlike before, they could not cross the border, make an asylum claim, and then vanish into our hinterland. Trump’s policies stemmed the flow of migrants, thus belying the claim of this article that mass migration is “inevitable.”

After Joe Biden entered the White House, he and his administration immediately began to repeal nearly all of the Trump initiatives to control the border. Title 42 remained in place for the reasonable purpose of stopping the spread of Covid-19. Now that the pandemic has subsided, the administration is moving to end this Covid-related restriction. The administration grudgingly reinstated “Remain in Mexico” because of a federal court order, while gutting its effectiveness. It is now asking the Supreme Court to overturn the reinstatement order.

The article above repeats the tiresome charge that “racism” is the motive of our immigration policies. The writer, of course, offers no proof of this assertion, or even a definition of this alleged racism. The truth is that when foreigners break our laws and show disrespect for our country, we judge them by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. Racial discrimination, however, does exist in our system of legal immigration. It gives priority of admission to relatives of immigrants already here. Since most of them are from Latin America and Asia, this policy to a large extent excludes white Europeans.

Once again, mass immigration is not inevitable, and neither is it beneficial—contrary to the claim of this article. Its writer essentially proposes an open border, an invitation to tens of millions of impoverished people around the globe to move here. We’re supposed to believe that this flood of humanity would help us more than harm us. Dream on. Dream on.
