Venezuelan Murder Suspect Could Not Be Deported

The suspect in the murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley is an illegal migrant from Venezuela named Jose Antonio Ibarra. He has been charged by Georgia police with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call, and concealing the death of another. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials have confirmed that Ibarra illegally entered the U.S. in September 2022 near El Paso and was granted parole and released.

The next year, in September 2023, Ibarra was arrested in New York City for “acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation.” He was promptly released before a request to hold him, called a “detainer,” could be issued if one was ever considered. At some point, Ibarra left New York for Athens, Georgia, where a brother (who has also been arrested, for presenting a counterfeit green card) lives.

Police are saying that Ibarra did not know Riley, the victim, and that the murder, which took place on a jogging trail on the University of Georgia campus, was a “crime of opportunity.”

The White House is complaining that the government of Venezuela has begun refusing to accept its citizens who are being deported from the US, the assumption being that it is powerless to do anything but give them parole and turn them loose in America.

Meanwhile, the mainstream media, which sees itself the protector of all criminal aliens, has emphasized not the immigrant status of Ibarra but the unwise decision of the victim to run alone on the jogging trail. AP posted the following:

Riley’s death has once again put the spotlight on the dangers female runners face. Previously, the 2018 death of University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts while out jogging prompted an outpouring from other women who shared their tales of being harassed and followed.

Not a word about the killer’s immigration status or criminal history.

That’s what we’ve got nowadays.
