That five-week delay in ending Title 42 agreed to “with great reluctance” by Federal judge Emmet Sullivan (Washington, DC) will end December 21. The demise of the CDC protocol is universally expected to spur a massive surge across the border of illegal migrants confident they can no longer be summarily returned to Mexico.
According to anonymous CBP sources speaking to Breitbart News, the “Department of Homeland Security is not engaged in any substantive planning to confront” that surge.
Not so for the state of Texas. Breitbart is reporting that Texas Governor Abbott has ordered ten M113 armored personnel carriers sent to the border to help deal with the anticipated crisis.
Officials with the Texas Military Department explained the vehicles are needed to “enhance protection for our forces in the face of increasing cartel-directed criminal activity.” In a written statement, the TMD noted the recent rise in violence along the border:
Between Oct. 1 2021 and Nov. 8 2022, Texas National Guard Service Members have experienced 267 suspicious or violent events. These events include receipt of gunfire across the border, physical assaults, drone activity, lazing, surveillance, suspicious activity, threats of violence to the task force and threats of violence to individuals.
Asked if the troop carriers will be armed, the TMD did not immediately reply.
Even with Title 42 remaining in effect, half a million illegals are estimated to have crossed the border into the U.S. so far in Fiscal Year 2023 (which began in October). Administration officials themselves admitted last April that with the discontinuance of Title 42, the influx will double, and a similar number will likely be arriving each and every month. With neither tools nor incentive to send them back, that rounds out to at least six million a year–a number greater than the population of more than half the states in the union.
Meanwhile, the golden ager in the White House drowses.
