The Mind-Blowing Costs of Illegal Immigration

Erin Dwinell of The Heritage Foundation posted a piece on The Daily Signal website a few days ago revealing the staggering cost of Joe Biden’s open-borders policy. Here are some of her findings:

  • Border states like California ($21.76 billion) and Texas ($8.88 billion) each year spend billions on education, health care, law enforcement and criminal justice system costs, welfare expenditures, etc.
  • Even states and cities far from the border are on the hook for huge sums: Illinois ($4.59 billion), New York City ($2.8 billion), Colorado ($12 million), New Jersey ($15 million).
  • The human costs–from, for example, crime–are just as bad or worse: in 2022, the CBP arrested 12,028 illegal aliens who were already convicted criminals.
  • And then there’s the cost in human lives resulting from dangerous drugs coming across the border: 71,000 deaths nationally in 2021 from overdoses of fentanyl alone.
  • Even the money spent by the federal government for supposed “border protection” is actually being spent for processing and caring for illegal immigrants instead of preventing their entry. This fiscal year the administration plans to add 300 Border Patrol agents at a cost of $65 million, 300 Border Patrol processing coordinators for $23 million, and a new Joint Processing Center for $140 million. All to make the illegals more comfortable and ease their transition into American society and the workforce.

Don’t fall for the “all immigration is good” arguments from the open-borders advocates on the left and the big business lobbies on the “right”: illegal immigration represents a massive cost to American taxpayers, the American economy, and the American nation. The ultimate price will be the elimination of America itself.
