We first wrote about Colony Ridge, a sprawling development 40 miles northeast of Houston, back in May. At that time, five residents, all illegal, had been murdered by another illegal. In response, we wrote:
Colony Ridge is an outpost of the violent third world, made possible by a federal policy that, in its headlong rush to destroy America, has found the perfect strategy.
Now, the Daily Wire has uncovered some interesting details about the development. Not only federal officials are involved, it appears. The Daily Wire reports that there are “some serious allegations that Republican politicians are involved in the development.”
For example, Gov. Greg Abbott, who has done a good job publicizing the migrant crisis with his “Operation Lone Star” and related campaign to bus illegals out of state, is said to have received $1.4 million in political contributions from Trey Harris, Colony Ridge’s owner. Another state politician, Congressman Morgan Luttrell, also a Republican, is reported to have received three maximum contributions of $2,900 in 2022 from Harris. Others are rumored to have received significant donations as well.
Regardless of what political cooperation Colony Ridge might be receiving from its generosity, there is no doubt that it is growing quickly. Now spreading out over 60 square miles, in 2020 Colony Ridge had an estimated population of about 20,000. By now, thanks to Washington’s open-borders policy, that appears to have mushroomed to 50,000 or 75,000. An independent reporter who has flown by helicopter over the region numerous times, says 200,000 is ultimately not out of the question, which would make Colony Ridge a third-world city in the middle of America, 400 miles from Mexico.
No one knows how many people are there, because the development is as close to being lawless as you can get only a few miles from the nation’s fourth largest city, Houston.
That relative lawlessness is a big drawing card for many foreigners, who respond to the development’s advertising slogan, which, translated from Spanish, reads “Still renting? Own land in the United States!” Many of those anxious to buy US land are desirous of that land being far from the sight of the authorities. As reporter Todd Bensman explained in his recent book Overrun, members of the Gulf and Sinaloa cartels invested in Colony Ridge properties early in order to set up safe houses for human and drug smuggling operations. He wrote:
The Mexican cartels are very active in that they run safe houses, they run drugs, they do marijuana grows, they commit crimes. This is a homeland security issue. It’s a public safety issue.
Harris’s company sells land only; houses, etc, are up to the buyers. That accounts for the development’s third-world-like appearance. One reporter who took a helicopter tour described what he saw on the flight:
[I]t was only minutes before the designer homes and pools gave way to half-built homes, dilapidated trailers, and heaps of trash. Houses on the ground fly the flags of foreign countries and many homes display their addresses on spray painted pieces of plywood. Many structures, some of which are not hooked up to running water, were under construction, while others were unfinished but didn’t appear to be actively getting worked on. At least one plot of land didn’t have any structures at all, just a tent in the corner, nestled between shrubs. Stray dogs without collars could be seen trotting along the side of the underdeveloped streets.
No clearer picture of a violent, impoverished third-world environment could be drawn, and all within what the developers call “the fastest growing development in the U.S.”
