September ‘Encounters’ Set Record

Last month, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) revealed that its agents had more than 260,000 encounters with migrants along our borders, the highest monthly total ever recorded. That figure included encounters with the Border Patrol between ports of entry and with the Office of Field Operations between the ports.

The previous record was set in December 2022, when there were 252,320 encounters. During the first half of this year the numbers declined, which prompted the Biden Administration to claim that it was getting the border under control. Beginning in July, however, the encounters began rising again.
