Fairfax County, Virginia is a sanctuary county. It refuses to cooperate with federal immigration law enforcement to remove illegal aliens. Recently this policy had tragic consequences.
An illegal alien from Peru was arrested in Fairfax for petit larceny. Rather than hold this person for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to pick up and deport, the country released him. Subsequently, he was arrested and charged with the rape of a victim under thirteen years of age.
Commenting on the case, ICE official Erik Weiss observed that “This undocumented noncitizen allegedly committed unspeakable acts against a child. He has no legal basis to remain in the United States, and he poses a threat to the residents of his community.”
