House Republicans are quietly adding language to a Department of Defense authorization bill that allows permanent residency to “DREAMers” if they serve in the US military. Leading the push is Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA), who is offering the text of his “ENLIST Act” to be added to the DOD bill. The “ENLIST Act” as a stand-alone has 42 cosponsors, of which 24 are Republicans. Those in favor of immigration enforcement are concerned that the bill will lead to broader immigration reform; these would-be pro-amnesty reformers are anxious to push legislation through before Obama provides another amnesty through executive order as he has implied he may do.
