During a symposium on conservative relations with Hispanic media held Tuesday, US Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said that Hispanic voters needed to be shown that the GOP is more than “just the party of deportation”. He went on to explain: “You know, because everybody — even those who are here legally — know somebody who is here who doesn’t have the proper visa”. He also claimed that of the immigrants in this country illegally, “forty percent of them came with the proper documents and then somehow lost their documentation”, and lamented the fact that aliens are not allowed to seek higher paying jobs without jeopardizing their immigration status.
