NYC Adams: Migrants Raising Crime Rates

Beleaguered and befuddled Mayor Eric Adams of New York City admitted in a press conference this morning what everyone else already knew: those 161,000-plus illegal migrants who have settled in NYC since spring 2022 are not all humble families yearning to breathe free, etc. Many are criminals.

The New York Police Department, for example, has reported an 11.3% rise in car thefts and a 6.9% increase in felony assaults as of October 2023. Adams admitted:

There was a robbery pattern. . . . We identified that this was a robbery pattern, and there were some migrants that participated in that robbery pattern.

As a Democrat, Adams was quick to absolve the migrants, even the criminal ones, of their offenses, blaming the thefts and assaults on the newcomers’ inability to legally work and blaming the problem in general on Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who has shipped about 37,100 migrants to New York (far fewer than the estimated 161,000). Adams said in the criminals’ defense:

You place a person in an environment where they can’t work, they can’t provide for themselves. That’s not a good scenario.

That’s true enough, but the real way to phrase it is this: “You admit a person. . . .” And to place the blame for that, the mayor need look no further than his superannuated partner in crime at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington.
