Regular readers will remember that in June we reported that an estimated 250,000 illegal border crossers had made their way into the United States scot free in Fiscal Year 2021 (which started last October), without notice or apprehension. Known colloquially as “got-aways,” once across the border, these illegal aliens are unknown, untracked, and completely free to travel and settle anywhere they like in this country. No court date, no administrative hearing, no asylum adjudication await them.
A quarter of a million phantom residents is a lot of illegal residents to add to your population, but now a source in U.S. Customs and Border Protection is reporting that so far this fiscal year the number of got-aways is estimated to have ballooned up to 340,000, an increase of 90,000 since June. The CBP estimates that fully 1,100 migrants avoid capture each and every day.
Adding the estimate of got-aways to the 1.2 million illegal migrants that have so far been actually encountered, fewer than half of whom are currently being returned, and we have a million-and-a-half illegals coming into the U.S. this fiscal year alone, with one month to go.
Border protection, more than ever, is a joke.
