Mayorkas Picks a Panel

Last March, as part of the Biden administration’s de-Trumpification policy, Cuban-born DHS chief Alejandro Mayorkas, a pro-migrant zealot, dissolved the existing Homeland Security Advisory Council, firing virtually all of the members who had served under President Trump. At the time, he promised to “move very quickly” to create a new Council that “reflects the priorities of the department.” This week, Mayorkas finally got around to announcing the new membership and, not surprisingly, it consists of a panel of pro-migration executives, progressive politicians, and open-borders activists, none of whom is likely to disagree with anything the Chief has to say.

In 2021, at the time of the mass firing, Ken Cuccinelli, a former Council member, called it “a good old fashioned purge.”

It’s a sign they simply won’t brook any dissent. It’s consistent with other things they’re doing like supporting H.R.1 which has free speech limitations, it’s consistent with them not letting media into border facilities. This is a part of a broader pattern and practice by Biden’s administration of being the most Stalinistic in my adult lifetime.

The Council is intended to be a think tank that, in the DHS website’s words, “leverages the experience, expertise, and national and global connections of the HSAC membership to provide the Secretary real-time, real-world, and independent advice to support decision-making across the spectrum of homeland security operations.”

The “advice” that will emanate from the new bunch is most likely to consist of “Right you are, Chief!” The 33 members include CEOs of General Motors, Oracle, Duke Energy, American Airlines, United Airlines, Bank of America, and Chobani. Also included are the head of Unidos US (formerly known as La Raza), the founding president of the Asian American Foundation, and a sampling of Deep Staters from the CIA and FBI.

The complete list is posted on the DHS website.

Jon Freere of the Center for Immigration Studies said, “I don’t see any entities on this new list that seek to promote the interest of American workers, and nor do I see anyone on this list who has made a career of demanding a serious commitment to the enforcement of immigration laws. . . That’s a very swampy list of people.”

But then, what would we expect?
