A poll by Grinnell College found that a majority of of working class Americans favor immigration restriction. Fifty-two percent of Americans making less than $50,000 a year said that immigration levels are too high. In contrast, the poll found that 57 percent of America who make more than $100,000 disagree that the levels are excessive.
Harvard economist George Borjas has observed from his research that immigration, by suppressing workers’ wages, acts to enrich wealthy people at the expense of low-income workers.
