Illegal Migrants Pivot West, Arizona Heats Up

The efforts being made by the state of Texas to discourage illegal traffic from Mexico may be causing illegal migrants to shift westward to Arizona.

John R. Modlin, Chief Patrol Agent for the Tucson Sector, tweeted on March 10 that a “large” group of illegal aliens–235 in number–had been apprehended the previous Monday near Lukeville, Arizona. Modlin also reported that over a three-day period in the Tucson Sector, a total of 3,410 illegal aliens–including 23 known criminals–were apprehended, along with 228 pounds of marijuana, 10.3 pounds of methamphetamine, 3.9 pounds of Heroin, and 3.3 pounds of Fentanyl.

The group of 235, Modlin said, was unusually large. Observers have suggested the relative success in discouraging in-migration being enjoyed by Texas may be a factor in the uptick in illegal traffic in the sector. Political supporters of Kari Lake, failed candidate for Arizona governor, also blamed the winner of that contest, current Governor Katie Hobbs, whom they accuse of being soft on illegal migration. The upshot is the migrant crisis continues unabating.
