Idaho House Passes Immigration Bill

The Idaho House voted 53-15 to pass a bill modeled on the legislation recently passed by Texas to curtail illegal immigration. Much of the Idaho bill copies the Texas law word-for-word.

The Idaho measure makes residence of an illegal alien in the state a crime. It also allows local law enforcement to check immigration status of individuals and empowers magistrate judges to order illegal aliens to leave the state.

Rep. Jaron Crane, the sponsor of the bill, declared that “This is not targeting any demographic; this is targeting people that are here illegally. If you are here legally you have nothing to worry about.” The bill now goes to the Idaho Senate for consideration.
