U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee through which immigration legislation passes, said Thursday that Pres. Obama’s lax enforcement of immigration laws has created mistrust among GOP House lawmakers making it hard to “make a deal with President Obama yet.”
While Goodlatte claimed that Republicans want “zero tolerance of illegal immigration,” he said he wanted a deal with the White House that would increase future immigrant and guest worker admissions, enforcement to stop future illegal immigration, and legalization of some of the illegals already here.
