Eighty percent of French citizens want a ban on immigration, according to a poll conducted by the CSA Institute for CNEWS. Large majorities of all age groups favor this moratorium. Significantly, a majority of left-wing voters, 56 percent, also concur.
French elites no doubt will try to ignore this majority sentiment of their people. They maintain, like most Western elites, that heeding the popular will about immigration is a threat to “democracy.” They also claim that shutting off immigration would be a violation of “human rights.” In their minds, it would seem, immigrants are more human than native-born citizens.
