Border War Heats Up: IEDs Found Near Border

The “border war” we discussed in early October is heating up.

This week, the Mexican army found 10 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) containing black powder and shrapnel on the Mexican side of the border near the Sasabe, Arizona, port of entry. The Mexican troops had been drawn to the location by a gunfight between rival smuggling gangs, who were fighting over access to an often-used gap in the border wall there. Meanwhile, on the American side during the melee, a Tucson border patrol agent arrested a gang member carrying a loaded AK-47 rifle, two loaded AK magazines, loose rounds, and a handgun. The man told the agent that 11 other, similarly armed, gang members were nearby.

CBP officers have been alerted by the agency to the danger of explosive devices at or near the border.

Currently, the cartels are fighting among themselves, but with their increasing firepower, it is only a proverbial matter of time before American officers or civilians are directly involved in a shooting — and exploding — conflict.

Add another war to Joe Biden’s growing collection.
