The Florida Legislature passed legislation, strongly endorsed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, to thwart illegal immigration. Among its provisions, the measure requires large and medium-sized businesses to use the federal E-Verify system, which will help them determine if job applicants are legal residents.
It also allows prosecution of people who knowingly transport illegal aliens across Florida’s state line, and prohibits driving by illegal aliens even if they have driver’s licenses from other states. The bill allocates funds for Florida to continue sending illegal aliens to “sanctuary” cities in other parts of the country.
The sponsor of the legislation in the House was Rep. Kiyan Michael. Her 21-year-old son died in a traffic accident caused by an illegal alien.
