Down for the Count?

As we reported here in November, the so-called Build Back Better Act of the Biden administration contains amnesty for 6.5 million illegal aliens as well as green cards for millions more legal immigrants.

Thanks, however, to the announcement yesterday by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) that he will oppose the bill, those immigration provisions, along with the rest of the massive, $3-5 trillion bill, are now in jeopardy.

This has predictably provoked a furor of opposition, not only from the far-left Democrats who covet the idea of a wholesale remaking of American society, but also among the high-tech billionaire class that has been chomping at the bit for more and more cheap foreign labor. According to Breitbart News, Amazon, Facebook, Intuit Inc, AT&T, Verizon, Alphabet, Deloitte, the Microsoft Corporation, and IBM have all lobbied aggressively for the law’s passage. The FWD.us organization, founded by Facebook’s Zuckerberg, has become the mouthpiece of that lobby.

The Democrats and their fellow travelers in the immigration lobby are loudly proclaiming that “it’s not over yet!” and they may be right. For now, however, BBB is on the mat. We’ll have to wait and see if it is able to rise before the bell.
