DeSantis Promises Secure Border

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a contender for the GOP presidential nomination, affirmed his commitment to stopping illegal immigration during a speech at Eagle Pass, Texas. He declared that “What we’re saying is no excuses on this. Get the job done. Make it happen. We don’t want hollow rhetoric. We don’t want empty promises.”

Among his proposals DeSantis called for completion of a border wall and reinstatement of the “Remain in Mexico” policy which discouraged illegal aliens from making bogus asylum claims. He also promised to “fully deputize all state and local governments” to assist immigration law enforcement and called for an end to birthright citizenship for the children of illegal aliens born in the U.S.

DeSantis added that illegal immigration needs to be fixed soon, preferably after the next presidential election, if not . . . I don’t think it’s ever going to get done.”
