One line of propaganda used to excuse illegal immigration is that hard-core criminals are not crossing the border. As proof of this claim they point to relatively low crime rates in U.S. cities on the Mexican border. An example was a recent article at axios.com by Russell Contreras.
In a reply to that article Eddie Scarry at washingtonexaminer.com notes that border crossers don’t remain at the border: “No, they continue moving and spread throughout the rest of the country. What sense would it make to know you’re illegally entering the country, along with thousands of others on a daily basis, only to halt just on the other side? That’s not what they do. They go to Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and other cities along the East and West Coasts.”
