Chamber Seeks More Cheap Labor

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and more than 430 special interest groups are seeking to expand the pool of cheap labor. On Monday they announced the formation of what they call the Legal Immigration and Border Enforcement Reform This Year (LIBERTY) campaign. It will formally ask Congress and the Biden Administration to increase legal immigration.

Legal immigration has averaged around one million a year for the past thirty years, by far the highest sustained level in our history. Nevertheless, the Chamber and other cheap labor lobbies want more immigration to keep workers’ wages as low as possible in order to increase profits. Harvard economist George Borjas has observed that immigration serves to shift wealth from the poor to the rich.
