Trump Cuts Aid to Central America

President Trump has cut direct foreign aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras because, he maintains, they have  not done enough to stop caravans of migrants from coming to the United States. Jeh Johnson, who served as secretary for Homeland Security during the Obama Administration, says that the situation at the border is now a "crisis."   Read more at foxnews.com

Administration Increases H-2Bs

The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reports that the Trump Administration has not kept its word to reduce foreign guest worker programs that take jobs from American workers. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it will raise the 2019 cap  on foreign workers with H-2B visas. The CIS report stated the following reasons why this is a bad idea: Data show that employers pay H-2B workers much less than their American counterparts. The H-2B program distorts the labor market and artificially props up inefficient companies, giving them no incentive to reform their hiring practices. H-2B prevents the neediest Americans (ex-convicts, recovering addicts, the homeless, high school dropouts, etc.) from securing meaningful employment that could transform their lives. The H-2B visa is unnecessary because a domestic replacement could do the same thing. Read more at cis.org

1.5 Million More Illegal Aliens Projected

At the current rate of illegal border crossings and visa overstays, the current population of illegal aliens in the U.S.--now estimated at 11 million--will grow by 1.5 million by the end of the year. This projection suggests that illegal immigration is headed back toward its high levels of twenty years ago, Read more at breitbart.com

DHS Releases Many Migrants

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS)--between March 5 and March 20--released 24,000 border crossers into the U.S. to await asylum and immigration hearings. Most won't show up for those appointments, and they will add their numbers to the 11 million illegal aliens now residing in the U.S. One reason for the releases is that the recent influx of migrants has overwhelmed the detention facilities to keep apprehended migrants in custody. Congress recently refused to fund additional detention space. Read more at breitbart.com

House Fails to Override Trump Veto

The House of Representatives failed to override President Trumps' veto to uphold his declaration of national emergency on the Mexican border. The vote for the override, 248 to 181, was 38 votes short of the two-thirds majority necessary to overturn the veto. The vote was mainly along party lines.  Read more at foxnews.com

Migrants Overwhelm Border

The surge of illegal alien migrants at the border has forced U.S. detention officers to release approximately 107,000 illegal alien family members into our border states. This influx has diverted officers from other crucial tasks as deporting criminal aliens who pose a danger to public safety.  “The current crisis that is occurring at the southwest border, the numbers that we collectively as a nation are seeing . . . is absolutely unprecedented.” said Nathalie R. Asher, acting executive associate director for Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s deportation division.  Read more at washingtontimes.com

Economic Advisors: No shortage

President Trump has been influenced by cheap labor business interests to endorse an increase in legal immigration to meet an alleged labor shortage. Interestingly, this view contradicts the view expressed in a report by the president's Council of Economic Advisors. It stated: "Although the low unemployment rate is a signal of a strong labor market, there is a question as to whether the rapid pace of hiring can continue and whether there are a sufficient number of remaining potential workers to support continued economic growth. This pessimistic view of the economy’s potential, however, overlooks the extent to which the share of prime-age adults who are in the labor market remains below its historical norm." Nielsen: Border Security Near Meltdown

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen affirmed that border security is facing a real crisis situation. She stated, “The situation at our Southern Border has gone from a crisis, to a national emergency, to a near system-wide meltdown. There is no more fundamental responsibility for a nation. And yet, the American people have been let down by our government again . . . and again. I want to cut through the politics to tell you loud and clear: there is NO 'manufactured' crisis at our Southern Border. Read more at breitbart.com

SPLC Fires Dees

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a radical left-wing organization which stridently attacks immigration restrictionists. The radical left supports mass immigration as a means to destabilize American society. The SPLC's stock-in-trade is to label its opponents as haters and racists. Now it appears that the SPLC has practiced what it denounced. The organization revealed that it has fired its founder Morris Dees, citing his "inappropriate conduct." The Los Angeles Times reports that "the organization, whose leadership predominately white, has been wrestling with complaints of workplace mistreatment of women and people of color. . . . A letter signed by about two dozen employees -- and sent to management and the board of directors before news broke of Dees' firing -- said they were concerned [about] internal 'allegations of mistreatment, sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and racism. . . .' Police Chief: End Sanctuary

The San Diego Police Chief Eddie Garcia denounced California's sanctuary policies which protect illegal alien criminals from deportation. He stated, “This isn’t about politics, this is about public safety." He made his statements in reference to a case involving the arrest of an illegal alien for stabbing a 59-year of woman to death. Because of the sanctuary policy, the suspect--with a long rap sheet--was not turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation after previous arrests.  Read more at foxnews.com
