Biden Puts Migrants Ahead of Americans

The Biden administration has been touting its economic plan as a way to rebuild the economy from the bottom up and middle out, invest in America and its people, lower costs for families, and make the wealthy and large corporations pay their fair share. However, a closer look at the details of the plan reveals that it is actually a massive giveaway to migrants at the expense of American families.

One of the most controversial aspects of the plan is the provision that would grant legal status and a path to citizenship to millions of undocumented immigrants who entered or stayed in the country illegally. The White House claims that this would boost economic growth, increase tax revenues, and reduce deficits. However, these claims are based on dubious assumptions and ignore the costs and consequences of such a radical policy change.

First, granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants would create a huge incentive for more illegal immigration in the future, as people would expect another round of amnesty down the road. This would undermine border security, national sovereignty, and the rule of law. It would also strain public services and infrastructure that are already under pressure from the ongoing surge of migrants at the southern border.

Second, granting legal status to millions of illegal immigrants would increase competition for jobs and wages for American workers, especially those with low skills and education levels. According to a recent study by Harvard economist George Borjas, immigration reduces wages for native workers by an average of 5.2 percent. Moreover, many illegal immigrants work in sectors that have been hit hard by the pandemic, such as hospitality, construction, and agriculture. Legalizing them would make it harder for American workers to recover from the economic crisis.

Third, granting legal status to millions of illegal immigrants would impose significant fiscal costs on American taxpayers. According to a report by the Heritage Foundation, each illegal immigrant who receives amnesty would receive $592,000 more in government benefits than they pay in taxes over their lifetime. This amounts to a net cost of $6.3 trillion for all 11 million illegal immigrants currently in the country. This would add to the already unsustainable debt burden that future generations will have to bear.

The White House economic plan puts migrants ahead of American families by rewarding those who broke our laws while penalizing those who followed them. It is unfair, unwise, and un-American. We need an economic plan that puts America first.
