Biden Grants Parole to Cubans, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, Colombians

Humanitarian parole is defined by the Congressional Research Service as “official permission to enter and remain temporarily in the United States. It does not constitute formal admission. . . .” Wikipedia adds, “Humanitarian parole is granted only in exceptional circumstances and on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the DHS.” Former Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott says he granted only “5-10 per year” while heading the agency.

Yet Fox News’ Bill Melugin reported yesterday that the Biden administration has begun using the heretofore rare procedure to justify the massive release of illegal aliens into the U.S. For example, from March 2021 through October 2021, the government released at least 160,000 illegal migrants into the United States, more than 30,000 of them through parole. Adding to that total a majority of the 76,000 Afghan and the expected 100,000 Ukrainian refugees, and you have a huge abuse of the policy, just because Joe Biden could figure no other way to get what he wanted.

And the abuse is getting worse.

Melugin cites an unnamed DHS source in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector in Texas who told him that in response to a Sunday, March 20, email giving them the authority, agents have begun releasing citizens of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Colombia into the U.S. under humanitarian parole. The only exception is single Colombian adults, who will continue to be returned under Title 42, until that policy is rescinded, which may be soon.

The extension of parole is clearly part of the Biden plan to try to deal with the expected rush on the border when Title 42 is abandoned, perhaps as early as the end of this month. Biden has always resented the policy, regarding it as a Trumpian holdover, but the CDC has pushed for its continuation. He has gradually reduced its effectiveness, however, to the point that today scarcely more than half of illegals are returned under its auspices compared with more than 90 percent under President Trump.

Other measures being taken to deal with the expected massive surge are the establishment of a so-called war room called the Southwest Border Coordination Center (SBCC), a call for volunteers from other government agencies, and–just yesterday–reports from the Pentagon that DHS has requested support from the military.

As we said here last week, “Make no mistake, this frenzy of preparation is not to prevent entry of illegal migrants into the United States. It is to process their admission into our country.” It is nothing short of a massive welcoming operation.
