Abbott’s Action Is Justified

The Quote Below—More Misinformation from the Media

“New York City officials said intake centers have received more than 4,000 migrants since late May. Since April, Abbott has sent another 6,000 migrants to Washington.

“Washington was chosen because of its role as the seat of the US government, where federal immigration policy is forged. And in recent days, Abbott and New York Mayor Eric Adams have traded barbs over immigration, prompting the Texas governor to send many of his state’s migrants to the Big Apple. . . .

“In his statement this month this month, Abbott announced that he was busing migrants to the two cities “because of President (Joe) Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies.”

“But in truth, the federal government has been aggressively tackling immigration. The Biden administration has been wrestling with multiple immigration matters. . . . The administration also has launched measures aimed at cracking down on human trafficking and smuggling. Last year, Biden advised potential migrants, “Don’t come. . . . Don’t leave your town.

“In short, for Abbott to suggest that Biden does not recognize the seriousness of the situation at the border is false. The governor may not like the Biden administration’s policies, but Abbott is not president. He does not get to mandate our national immigration policy. . . .

“Arguably the most distinctive feature of Abbott’s busing plan is not what it does, but what it doesn’t do. It doesn’t deter unlawful migration, advance immigration reform or promote the humane treatment of asylum-seekers. And it certainly does not solve any ‘border crisis.’

“One thing it does do, however, is give Abbott national attention, which could help him win reelection this November in a tightening gubernatorial race. . . . Abbott, it would seem, needs to act tough on immigration to shore up his conservative base. In short, the Texas governor is using vulnerable people to raise his national profile and to help his reelection campaign.” . . . — Texas Governor Is Cynically Using Immigrants as Props, Paul Reyes, CNN, 8/14/22 [Link]

Fact Check of Above Quote: Writer Paul Reyes attacks Gov. Abbott for sending illegal aliens to New York City and Washington, D.C. He claims that the Texas governor is trying to set immigration policy. To the contrary, Abbott is simply trying to educate New York’s and Washington’s leaders about the consequences of Biden’s immigration policy. Those leaders have made their cities sanctuaries for illegal aliens. Now, with lots of needy illegals headed their way, they will have to consider the price that their moral posturing will require them to pay. In any case, Abbott is drawing attention to a serious national problem, attention which could lead to genuine reform.

Also in his column, Reyes ludicrously claims that the Biden Administration is “aggressively tackling” immigration. With this statement, Reyes reveals either profound ignorance or profound dishonesty.

An honest assessment comes from Mark Morgan, former acting commissioner U.S. Customs and Border Protection: “In just a few short months, the Biden administration has created a disaster on the southern border of the United States. It did so by methodically—and by all indications intentionally—undoing every meaningful border security measure that had been in place. And Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been effectively shut down.”

Tom Homan, former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, concurs with Morgan: “The bottom line is . . . we’ve got the first president in history of this nation that came into office within days and intentionally unsecured the most secure border we ever had . . . . Under President Trump we had illegal immigration down 81 percent . . . . And [now] we have a president who unsecured the border and we have a Secretary of Homeland Security who’s helping him do that.”

The Border Patrol gauges the flow of illegal aliens by the number of them it apprehends. The totals have steadily risen under the Biden Administration. This fiscal year (2022) has set an all-time record of 1.8 million. Biden may have told potential migrants not to come, but his policies have extended a warm invitation. A leading example was his unrelenting effort to gut and then get rid of Donald Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, which effectively curbed bogus asylum claims by migrants.

As Mark Morgan said so well, Biden’s border policies are a disaster. And as he and Tom Harmon affirm, that outcome is intentional.
