The Biden Administration is granting Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to 470,000 Venezuelan migrants who are allowed to stay in the U.S. and make asylum claims, most of which are bogus. Under TPS they will be able to get work permits and take American jobs. Though TPS is supposed to be temporary, its recipients are rarely required to go home. Thus, these Venezuelans–by all odds–are here to stay.
The administration granted TPS in this case at the request of big city mayors whose cities are being overrun by illegal migrants. They want the migrants to work so that they won’t be so much of a burden on social services. These mayors don’t seem concerned about the impact of these work permits on the job opportunities and wages of American workers–particularly those who already struggle to make ends meet.
