Nearly 570 illegal migrants landed in Britain in the four days beginning Friday, May 28. A total of 336 crossed the channel from France in 19 boats on Friday, a single-day record for this year. Another 144 came across in seven boats the next day. So far this year, 3,500 illegal aliens have arrived in the UK by boat. Overwhelmed by the numbers, the British Border Force has been forced into abandoning coronavirus testing measures and has acted to transfer the illegals to detention centers as quickly as possible.
For many of the migrants, most of whom are young males, that is not quick enough, and they have become increasingly hostile to the Border Force officials charged with their care. An officer with the union representing the immigration officials said their members are “feeling increasingly threatened” as the migrants demand quicker access to taxpayer-funded accommodations. She told the Telegraph:
These are groups of people used to acting together to get what they need and frequently we cannot understand what they are saying to each other. The numbers arriving are phenomenal.
In March, Home Secretary Priti Patel announced that 8,700 illegal migrants were being housed at taxpayer expense in 90 hotels across the UK. At a cost extending into the billions of pounds, the government’s policies are buying it and British society little but violence and disorder. Last June, Badreddin Abadlla Adam, a Sudanese migrant, went on a rampage in the Glasgow hotel where he was being housed. In the knife attack that ensued, he injured six people, including a police officer, David Whyte, injured critically. Adam had reportedly complained about his free accommodation and that he was being fed food not “culturally appropriate” for him.
The increasing numbers of migrants have forced the government to expand its housing program to sites such as former military accommodation at Napier Barracks in Folkestone, Kent. In November, migrants housed there rioted and attempted to tear down barricades surrounding the facility. In January, they tried to burn it down.
