The Sue Me, Sue You Blues

You serve me
And I’ll serve you
Swing your partners, all get screwed
Bring your lawyer
And I’ll bring mine
Get together, and we could have a bad time
We’re gonna play the sue me, sue you blues
–George Harrison

These lines from Beatle George Harrison in 1973 sum up the conflict raging between the State of Texas and an alliance of various city governments around the country with the Biden administration. The city of Chicago, for example, has filed more than 90 lawsuits against bus companies for bringing illegal migrants into what it has long bragged of being a “sanctuary” city. In addition, the city has filed nearly 100 complaints against the companies, impounded vehicles, and issues thousands of dollars in fines.

Now a bus company, the Texas-based Wynne Transportation, is fighting back litigiously by filing its own lawsuit against the Windy City. Their suit charges that the city is discriminating against migrants — all of whom have expressed a desire to go there —  by impeding their entrance into the city. It asserts that Chicago has overstepped by regulating immigration, regulating interstate commerce, and violated the equal rights and due process of the company and of the migrants themselves.

The city has not yet responded to respond to Wynne Transportation’s complaint. Meanwhile, the migrants keep coming and the buses keep rolling.
