John Thompson, co-chair of the Massachusetts Coalition for Immigration Reform, affirms that left-wing “progressives” have long ceased to have any concern for the well-being of American workers. He notes that:
“The impact [of mass immigration] falls most directly on medium- and low-skilled Americans who are either replaced by foreign workers or forced to accept substandard wages and working conditions. With stagnating incomes and shrinking prospects for mobility, prime age workers are leaving the workforce in unprecedented numbers.
“Whereas a generation ago, politicians and opinion makers on the progressive end of the political spectrum could be counted on to defend the ‘working classes,’ their current revealed priority is open borders, whatever the consequences.”
