The House Votes to Impeach Mayorkas

After the recent failure of the House to vote articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, key Republican House members vowed they would try again. Yesterday they succeeded by a vote 214 to 213.

A DHS spokesman denounced the vote saying that: “Without a shred of evidence or legitimate Constitutional grounds, and despite bipartisan opposition, House Republicans have falsely smeared a dedicated public servant who has spent more than 20 years enforcing our laws and serving our country.”

To the contrary, supporters of impeachment noted, there are abundant shreds of evidence that Mayorkas has gutted immigration law enforcement by–among other actions–placing most illegal aliens in the U.S. off limits to deportation and twisting the law of parole to permit mass entry of aliens.

Now the case of impeachment goes to the Senate for a trial. Conviction isn’t likely given the Democratic dominance of the Upper Chamber. Nevertheless, impeachment advocates felt it was important to highlight Mayorkas’ malfeasance, which has opened our southern border to the current deluge of illegal migrants.
