A confrontation between the federal government and the state of Texas is shaping up in the controversy involving Shelby Park, in Eagle Pass, Texas. The authorities of that state want to secure the park at the border from incursions by illegal aliens. They have served notice to the federal government not interfere.
Washington has responded that it will take legal action against Texas because the federal government claims the sole right to control immigration. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton responded to this threat as follows:
“Because the facts and law side with Texas, the state will continue utilizing its authority to defend her territory, and I will continue defending those lawful efforts in court. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) should stop wasting scarce time and resources suing Texas, and start enforcing the immigration laws Congress already has on the books.”
