Sen. Ron Johnson: Illegals under Biden at 5M and Counting

In a Senate committee hearing yesterday, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) charged that the Biden administration has welcomed close to five million border crossers and illegal aliens into the United States since it assumed power in January 2021. That number exceeds the populations of 28 states and includes more than 1.6 million encounters with migrants at the southwest border in the 2021 fiscal year, the highest annual total on record. It also includes an estimated 900,000 “got-aways” who eluded apprehension and have since disappeared into American communities.

The majority of migrants encountered at the border are from Mexico and the Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. However, there has also been a notable increase in migrants from other regions, such as Haiti and Africa.

The only thing that has kept something of a lid on the explosion of illegal aliens has been Title 42, the CDC public health measure, originally adopted by the Trump administration, which permits immediate expulsion of illegals. The Biden administration has continued to expel some migrants under that program, but it is scheduled for termination next month, after which the real surge is expected.

The influx of illegal immigration has raised concerns about border security, public health, humanitarian crises and national sovereignty. Critics of the Biden administration have accused it of being soft on immigration enforcement and creating incentives for more people to cross the border illegally.

Supporters of the administration have argued that it is trying to balance compassion and pragmatism in dealing with a complex and multifaceted challenge. In actuality, it is trying to admit just as many future Democrat voters as possible–and obviously doing a bang-up job of it.
