Post Covid, Immigrant Employment Up, American Down

Steven Camarota of the Center for Immigration Studies has issued a report analyzing immigrant versus American workers since the end of the Covid pandemic. He concludes that, while the unemployment rate for both is low, there are 1.9 million fewer U.S.-born Americans working than in the period of 2019 immediately prior to Covid. By contrast, the number of immigrants working is up two million. He  concludes:

The real problem in the labor market is not a lack of workers, but rather the decades-long decline in the share of Americans in the labor force. This decline is a disaster for the economy, and more important for society, as being out of the labor force is associated with numerous problems including crime, drug abuse and even an early death.
