Poll Finds Support for Restriction

A Rasmussen poll found that 49 percent of likely U.S. voters oppose an amnesty to give permanent work permits to an estimated 12 million illegal aliens in the U.S. Forty-two percent favor the idea. On legal immigration the poll found that 52 percent want a lower annual level of immigration than the current yearly level of one million. Thirty-six percent wanted less than 500,000.

Fifteen percent wanted one million to continue, and 17 percent favored more than a million. Sixteen percent were undecided.
