Pelosi Attacker an Illegal Alien

David DePape, the man who allegedly attacked Paul Pelosi, husband of the Speaker of the U.S. House, is a Canadian national who has been living illegally in this country for 22 years.

Immigration records show that DePape legally entered the United States from Canada on August 6, 2000. Visitor visas are good for six months, so staying here after February 6, 2001, was against the law. There is no evidence that DePape has ever taken any steps to change his status in the meantime.

DePape is not alone. Visa overstayers at any given time constitute at least 40 percent of the illegal aliens in the U.S. The lax controls on the visa program are yet another example of our dysfunctional immigration control system.
