No Enforcement Brings Anarchy

The Quote Below—More Misinformation from the Media

“Sometimes we don’t appreciate people [illegal aliens] until they’re gone. . . . Meanwhile, perhaps in a preview of what’s to come on the fiscal side, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Thursday that Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles amounted to what the governor called expensive political theater — at a cost to taxpayers of almost $120 million.

“Republicans like to dismiss such complaints as Democrats’ opposition to law and order. Never mind that the complaint is coming from people who actually deal with the issues of law and order firsthand.

“Like any other crime-vulnerable resident, I care about law and order, too. But I want solutions that work and that are consistent with American principles of justice and consent. It’s not very reassuring when Trump announces his plans for policing a city without consulting with local officials on what strategies are workable and acceptable to their communities.

“This is the clearest indication that Trump’s crackdown policies are less about public safety than showboating. . . .“Most of the soldiers sent to Los Angeles were sent home in August, officials said, although 300 remain in the city. . . .

“In other times and places, this is the kind of behavior that has touched off dangerous riots and even civil wars. With that in mind, Trump needs to assimilate a little bit of street wisdom, namely: Don’t start none, won’t be none.” — When the Immigration Debate Becomes War by Another Name, Clarence Page, Chicago Tribune, 9/7/25 [Link]

Fact Check of Above Quote: Clarence Page, the author of this piece, claims he cares “about law and order.” Obviously, he doesn’t. He has a real problem with President Trump maintaining order by enforcing our country immigration laws. And doing so, despite of Page’s claim, is perfectly consistent with American principles of justice. Why is it injustice to require foreigners to obey our laws, and to impose legal penalties on them when they don’t? Is it justice to force Americans to obey American laws, but not foreigners?

Page criticizes Trump for sending the National Guard to Los Angeles without consent of local officials. But what was he supposed to do when those officials refused to restrain mobs that were preventing ICE agents from enforcing federal immigration law. Unless California Gov. Gavin Newsom wants his state to secede from the Union, he needs to accept the supremacy of federal law.

The author maintains that Trump’s actions are “the kind of behavior that has touched off dangerous riots and even civil wars.” Quite to the contrary, it is the refusal to enforce laws, including immigration laws, that will bring about anarchy and the rule of lawlessness.
