New Yorkers Sour on Migration

A Siena College poll found that a large majority of New York voters are disturbed by the recent surge of illegal migrants into their state. Specifically, 82 percent of them said the influx was a “serious problem,” with 54 percent calling it “very serious.”

Fifty-eight percent said that the state should do what it can to curtail the flow of migrants. A plurality of voters said that the settlement of migrants during the past twenty years has been a “burden” rather than a “benefit” to the state. No significant New York politicians, however, are calling for New York to stop being a sanctuary state for illegal aliens.
