More Indians Cross Border

Increasing numbers of Indian citizens are being apprehended at the U.S. border. This fiscal year, U.S. authorities took a record number of 16,290 Indians into custody. The previous record was 8,997 in 2018.

Deepak Ahluwalia is an immigration lawyer who has represented Indian migrants. He maintains that Indians, including “low caste” Hindus and Muslims, are fleeing to escape persecution. These two groups may total as many as 370 million people. The population of the United States is 335 million.
