Fact Check of Above Quote: A glaring error in this article is its claim that the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is a “civil rights” organization. Many years ago it was, but radicals hijacked LULAC in the Sixties. Since then, it has substantially transformed itself into a Latino supremacist organization. One of its former presidents, Jose Velez, once proclaimed that “The Border Patrol is the enemy of my people and always will be.” Later he went to prison for forging documents for illegal aliens to help them get amnesty. LULAC has consistently opposed laws which might effectively to stem illegal immigration. Despite describing itself as a league of citizens, LULAC cares little for the worth and significance of citizenship—or the rule of law.
This is why it is ludicrous to link LULAC to civil rights. The Civil Rights movement of the Sixties affirmed equal rights for black Americans on the basis of their citizenship and demanded protection of their rights under the law. LULAC, and groups like it, essentially make no distinction between what Velez called my people (illegal aliens) and Americans citizens. Is it a problem that foreigners break our laws? No, say these open borders zealots. Those laws don’t matter.
Most outrageous is the claim of LULAC spokespersons that the Biden Administration’s almost nonexistent border controls are to blame for migrants’ deaths. The truth is that our virtually open border is inviting people to come with the assistance coyote smugglers. Without that invitation, many would not have come, and some of them would not have died. Tom Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), noted that migrant deaths were significantly less during the Trump Administration when the border was relatively under control.
“Unscrupulous coyotes” certainly play a role in migrants dying. But a much larger player in thLULAC ese tragedies is our lobby of unscrupulous open border advocates.
