A federal judge, Grew B. Tipton, ruled against the policy of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas that has prevented the detention and deportation of illegal aliens as authorized by law. Many of the aliens protected under this policy have had significant criminal records.
Judge Tipton stated that “The legal issues are varied and complicated. But the core of the dispute is whether the Executive Branch may require its officials to act in a manner that conflicts with a statutory mandate imposed by Congress. It may not.”
