Immigration Lawyers Cashing In

As sanctuary cities like New York are struggling to stay afloat financially during this time of unprecedented illegal foreign migration, RealClear Politics says one group is “winning big time”: public advocacy lawyers.

Their business is to constantly sue to win more so-called rights for migrants. Rights to shelter, rights to meals, rights to health care, even the right to vote in local elections.

Who pays the bills on both sides of these lawsuits? You do. Taxpayer money largely funds these legal combatants, which include the Coalition for the Homeless, Legal Aid Society, and Vera Institute of Justice.

RCP says the fact that citizens are being required to finance their own displacement is akin to “hiring your own assassin.” And it warns that things are about to get worse.

On December 14, in spite of the city government’s struggles with migrant care, the NYC city council actually passed a resolution demanding that the state legislature guarantee illegals the right to a government-paid attorney to represent them in immigration court. That resolution, Resolution 556, would give illegals “more rights than American citizens have,” since no one else is guaranteed a publicly funded lawyer in civil court matters.

Noting that, if passed, the measure would make NYC even more attractive to illegal migrants than it currently is, RCP asks, Who is responsible? The answer is, groups like the Vera Institute of Justice, a New York-based, publicly funded non-profit composed of leftist lawyers.

RCP stops short of William Shakespeare’s famous call to action in Henry VI, Part 2, but they do say, “It’s time to break the stranglehold these publicly funded lawyers, under the guise of doing good, have on our city and nation.”

Amen.
