The seventh annual National Immigrant Integration Conference (NIIC) is currently underway in Las Vegas. Billed as “the largest conference focused on immigrant and refugee issues in the country,” the NIIC is sponsored by the National Partnership for New Americans, an umbrella organization funded in part by George Soros. Speakers in previous years have included Hillary Clinton and such Congresspersons as Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Joaquin Castro (D-TX). Last year’s online-only conference keynoted Kamala Harris, while this year’s version will feature, along with many others, remarks by Nevada Governor Stephen Sisolak, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), plus a lifelike taped address by the Big Guy himself, Joe Biden.
The agenda of this year’s NIIC is pretty much what you’d expect. It consists of nine tracks addressing immigrant and refugee topics, including:
- Access to Justice
- Full Citizenship for All
- Global Migration
- Healthcare for All
- Nation of Refuge
- Using Narrative to Win
- Shared Prosperity: Rebuilding Our Economy That Works for All
- Solidarity in Action
- Welcoming and Inclusive Society
Promotional literature for the conference states the event’s overall aims:
The urgency of the moment calls for a unified and robust response from elected officials committed to the plight of immigrants and refugees. From Haiti – a country that just underwent an earthquake, a tropical storm, and a political assassination – to the refugees arriving from Afghanistan, we need to implement policies that help and welcome those most in need. At the NIIC, advocates and leaders from our communities across the country will loudly affirm that we already have the expertise and resources to put forth real solutions, we just need the will to do it. The time to act is now.
Loose talk abounds in such quarters–the Haitian migrants didn’t come here from Haiti and the Afghani Humanitarian Parolees are not refugees–but that’s not the point. The point is that the “real solutions” touted by such confabulations is the displacement of YOU by THEM. The assault on our southern border, for example, is not happening by accident. There are real people, in America, in and out of government, encouraging it and making it happen. This week many of them are meeting in Las Vegas.
You can find out more at the NIIC “New American Dreams” website. And, if you still haven’t had enough, you can get ready for next week’s “National Week of Action in Support of Black Migrants,” sponsored by the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI).
This stuff never stops.
We will make it a point to tune out.
