Senate Democrats tried to slip a massive amnesty for illegal aliens into the Senate budget bill. But Senate parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough overruled two of their plans, saying that major immigration legislation of this sort was not relevant to a budget bill. Now they are seeking MacDonough’s approval for “Plan C”–a watered down version of amnesty which would offer “parole” to illegal aliens.
This status would allow illegals to work in the U.S. but not get a path to citizenship. Critics of the proposal maintain that it is not essentially different from the first two plans.
