Immigrants Gain Jobs; Americans Lose them

A report by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reveals that employment of working-age native-born Americans has significantly declined since 2007, while employment of immigrants has significantly risen. The report states, “[T]here were . . . 1.3 million fewer working-age (16 to 65) natives holding a job in the fourth quarter of 2015 than in the same quarter of 2007. In contrast, over the same time period the number of immigrants working is up by 1.8 million.” Many of these Americans have given up looking for work, CIS notes, but they are not officially counted as unemployed.
