Illegal Migrants Set Record in May

Setting new records for abysmal performance is nothing new for the Biden administration and is hardly newsworthy. Yet, here we go again. According to Border Patrol estimates, published by Breitbart, the Patrol encountered more than 220,000 illegal border crossers in May, a new record for that month. Added to the 210,749 in March and 201,800 in April, May’s numbers bring the three-month total to more than 633,137. Since the beginning of the fiscal year on October 1, 2021, more than 1.4 million migrants have crossed into the United States. [Editor’s note: The May figure was an underestimate. The actual number of encounters was 239,416, nearly 20,000 more than estimated.]

And most will stay, in spite of measures like Title 42 remaining officially in place. That CDC policy, which permits fast removal of illegals back to Mexico, was set to officially expire on May 23, but that was prevented by a federal judge. Nevertheless, the administration apparently has near-infinite latitude on which migrants it chooses to enforce it on.

For example, Todd Bensman of CIS.org reported last week that the administration is selectively exempting from Title 42 expulsion huge swaths of migrants from Nicaragua, Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia, Ecuador, and Brazil, as well as all the countries of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. These broad exemptions apparently have resulted from Mexico’s refusal to accept returnees from those countries, claiming that repatriating them to their homelands would be too expensive and inconvenient for the Mexican government to manage.

So, Joe Biden, with no reluctance whatever, is cheerily welcoming all migrants from those countries and returning only those whom Mexico will willingly accept: ie, Mexicans and natives of the Northern Triangle countries of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.

Bensman talked with some of those “left-behinds” in the Mexican border town of Piedras Negras, where 3,000 Honduran and Guatemalan would-be asylees have been dumped, some of them multiple times, after failing to secure access to the U.S. These “sour losers” were angry that others got in while they were rejected.

“Why won’t the Americans let us cross?” one asked angrily. “We give them very good reasons for why we should cross. We gave the Americans good reason for why we should have asylum.”

Meanwhile, “the Americans”–that is, Joe Biden and Company–urge patience to those rejected. We expect that the entire world, except maybe some Russians, will eventually be incorporated into the bloated monster that America is becoming. Just give Joe a little time.
