Rep. Yvette Herrell (R-NM) announced that she will introduce legislation to grant temporary asylum to Canadians involved in the trucker protests in Canada. The reason, she cites, is the Trudeau government’s dictatorial crackdown on those protestors and their supporters. Herrell stated that:
“Just as we provide asylum for political prisoners, we should do the same for truckers who have been subjected to violence, had their property confiscated, and their bank accounts frozen by a government that is quickly becoming the embarrassment of the free world.”
The traditional purpose of asylum is to give a haven for people fleeing political persecution. So far the Biden Administration has said nothing about these Canadians, even though it encourages bogus asylum claims by migrants whose main motive for leaving their homelands is economic advancement.
